An interesting argument, with one serious flaw - The OP is making a lot of wild assumptions about the prices and how people shop for games, which have seriously skewed the outcome. I rarely pay 35 dollars for a discounted console game. In fact, I’d say never. I may buy ONE big title new in a year, the rest I wait and buy from the Greatest Hits line ($15-20 brand new, maybe 3-4 in a year. We’ll say 4) or used (usually no more than $10-15.00, we’ll say 6 of these to keep the overall number of 10 constant).

These numbers are still high, I watch for sales and take advantage of clearance bins all the time. I often get brand new games for $5.00. But for the sake of argument, we won’t include those and stick to the “averages.”

So assuming an average of $12.00 used and $17.00 for Greatest Hits, using the same quantities above mind the 3 New Release games I wouldn’t be buying, the totals come up like this for me:

I’m not much of an online gamer, so the whole online gaming thing isn’t even a selling point for me. However, I DO like a lot of the bonuses that PS Plus provides (including tons of free/severely discounted games, again throwing off the averages, but we’ll just focus on the subscription price)

Playstation 4

$400.00 on hardware
1 new game x $60.00 per year x 8 years - $480.00
4 Greatest Hits games x $17.00 x 8 years - $1088.00
6 Used games x $12.00 x 8 years - $576.00
PSN Plus - $50.00 per year x 8 years = $400.00

Total for Playstation 4: $2944.00

Difference between PC and PS4: $156.00

$156.00 which I can put towards another hard drive for my PC or something. Really not anywhere near as big a difference as the OP suggests, especially considering that some simple conscientious shopping can save you a lot of money in the short and long run.

And as I said, those average numbers are seriously highballed, I rarely pay as much as the OP suggests for games (and know very few people who do). It’s called knowing how to shop. In truth, the difference would be seriously in favor of PS4 for someone like me.

LOL at the Mac fanboys getting all butthurt that I called out the shitty design of the new Mac Pro. Double LOL at them assuming that means I’m some Microsoft fanboy who loves Windows 8 and the XBox One.

Sony guy all the way for consoles (Nintendo too when I get around to it), and custom built Windows 7 PCs all the way for computers! Microsoft can go suck an egg, I only use their OS for convenience and selection of software. Linux is too niche, and Mac is too proprietary with minimal selection of the type of software I actually use on a daily basis. Windows 8 sucks. I actually snagged a free legit copy of Windows 8 Pro when it first came out, have yet to install that P.O.S. on a single machine. And no one in their right mind would be bragging about that fascist B.S. XBox One console. A simple glance at my page here should make it obvious that I’m no Microsoft fanboy.

I grew up using Apple computers, and loved the original Macs. I hate what that company has become, and will never support their overpriced proprietary crap when I can get a PC that does the EXACT SAME THINGS for a fraction of the price, with the added bonus of building it myself from components of my own choosing. And there’s no way I’d put all those awesome internals into a case that looks like something you throw used Kleenex into, and have a legit concern for the sanity of their userbase when I see people EXCITED about this “amazing new design that will look great on your desk!” No it’s not, and no it won’t. Their designs from the early 2000’s were cool and innovative. This isn’t.

Since Sony been working on upgrading their movies to support 4K so are we going to see 100GB 4K Movies on iTunes?!!
